Sure you can, I always grow my cuttings direct in soil instead of water rooting. Get a small pot, 3 or 4", and put in some potting mix. Water it well, then stick the cutting in, putting at least the first set of leaves at the soil, or even under it a bit, since this is where the roots will come from.

Keep it moist, provide bright, filtered light, and it will be rooted in about 3 weeks, maybe less.

yes, re cut and keep in water w/ stones to hold it down. wait for the roots, as many/ long as you can wait… then put in 4" pot. fresh soil then grow.
